Africa Wellness Initiative is a 501(3)c Non-Profit Charity, a foundation for women infected with HIV/AIDS and orphans and vulnerable children in Southern Sub-Saharan Africa. A class for beginners that will be learning specific ensemble pieces using drums, bells and shakers and also xylophones. The curriculum is called World Music Drumming. It draws on traditional rhythms from West Africa and Afro-Latin America as well as other cultures. It is a great place for adults and children (age 9 and older) to make music as equals. Of course, you don't have to be a family member to join.
… The drum and percussion ensembles use traditional rhythms from West Africa, Afro-Latin America, and other traditional music. The xylophone pieces are also drawn from folk traditions. Songs can be sung with the ensembles, again drawing primarily from folk song, but you won't have to sing unless you want to. The ensembles will be taught by rote.
